Who we are
FirstTimers (firsttimers.pages.dev) is run by Xiang Lun Choo in Malaysia. For the purposes of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA), Xiang Lun Choo is the data user. Contact: xlchoo25@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your email address, only if you subscribe to the newsletter. You type it into the form on our pages. The form and the emails are run by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), which stores your email, your subscription status and records of when you confirmed or unsubscribed. Kit processes this data on its own servers, which may be outside Malaysia, under its own privacy policy. The Kit form script may also set a small cookie or browser storage item to remember that you have seen or used the form.
- Hosting logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, in order to deliver the site and keep it secure. We don't read these logs for tracking individual visitors.
- Emails you send us. If you write to us, we keep your message and email address to reply and to follow up on corrections.
What we don't collect
The site has no analytics scripts, no advertising trackers and no accounts or logins. We don't know who visits, or which pages individual people read. If that changes, we will update this page first.
Cookies from booking sites
Some pages link to operators and booking sites such as Viator, GetYourGuide or Klook. Once you click through, those sites may set cookies, including tracking cookies that record that you came from FirstTimers so a commission can be credited. That happens on their sites under their own policies. See how we earn money.
Why we use your data
- To send the FirstTimers newsletter you asked for (about one email a month).
- To answer your emails and correct the guide.
- To keep the site running and secure.
We don't sell your data and we don't give it to anyone for their own marketing. It is shared only with the services that run the site for us (Kit for email, Cloudflare for hosting), who process it on our behalf.
Unsubscribe, access, correction and deletion
- Unsubscribe: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every newsletter email. It takes effect straight away.
- Access, correction or deletion: email xlchoo25@gmail.com from the address in question and tell us what you want. We'll reply within a reasonable time (aim: 21 days) and remove your email from Kit if you ask us to.
How long we keep it
Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Other emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with your message.
Changes
If we change this policy, the effective date above will change too.
